About Argan Oil

Unique in the world by its characteristics, the Argania tree (Argania spinosa) grows exclusively in the southwest of Morocco. Belonging to the Sapotaceae family, this thorny tree, easily recognizable in the Moroccan landscape, can reach 8 to 10 meters in height and live for 200 years. Its color is greenish before maturation. Then, it changes to yellow or light brown, depending on the trees. Surrounded by a fleshy pulp, the fruit of the Argan tree contains a seed bearing one or more almonds.

HISTORY

Diving into the history of Argan, we discover Moroccan Berber women. The Berber population learned to peel the fruit of the Argan tree two thousand years ago, without stopping at the fact that it is inedible. The Berbers had the idea of pressing it to obtain an oil that Berber women have since used for its cosmetic and nutritional properties. The climatic conditions in southwest Morocco can be very difficult (strong winds, sun, etc.), the skin and hair dry out. Argan oil is applied to protect the skin and soften the hair. The oil was even used for medicinal purposes. Today, the positive effect of Argan oil has been scientifically researched and confirmed.
