ABOUT YELDA COSMETICS
THE BERBER BEAUTY RITUAL
Thousands of years ago, the beauty of Berber women was famous throughout the world. They took great care of themselves with a traditional beauty ritual. Every day, they pampered their hair and skin with natural products such as Argan oil, prickly pear oil, ghassoul clay and rose water. They adorned their faces with intricate henna tattoos, arousing intrigue, fascination and desire in passersby. They then completed their outfit with a unique, handmade tawenza (bandana), adding an elegant personal touch. At that time, in the Souss region, a Moroccan Berber queen named Yelda stood out for her divine and sublime beauty. It is said that she had an extraordinary beauty ritual that maintained her youth throughout her reign.
CENTURIES OF MOROCCAN TRADITION
Thanks to its privileged location at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, the Souss region is one of the most fertile in Morocco. The inhabitants have learned to take advantage of the numerous Argan trees of the savannah by harvesting the fruits and pressing the oil. For years, they have used its miraculous properties to keep their skin soft and their hair healthy. Today, the Argan and prickly pear oil, which we use in all our products, comes from this same Souss region. A cooperative made up of local women works together to cultivate the Argan trees, harvest the fruit and press the oil in an environmentally friendly and completely organic process.
